ABOUT
Jaliya Camp is Sousou & Maher Cissoko’s creative space located in Senegal in the small village of Abene in the Casamance-region, just 200 meters from the quiet beach on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. Here is where we can swim at first light, and where we’ll do our yoga practices. It is also where we’ll listen to magical kora music under the star-filled African night sky or practice ourselves.
Jaliya Camp is literally made of music and every building has been built accompanied by kora music, dancing and singing. Many of Sousou & Maher Cissoko's songs have been created here.
We are arranging private workshops in drumming and dancing. It’s also open for individuals who wants to come and study instruments like kora, balafon or percussion and for artists and individuals who wants to get some peace of mind to compose, practice, yoga, write, paint, or other creative stuff.
On top of that it’s also a great starting spot for birdwatching.
The Jaliya Camp Team consists of Sousou & Maher Cissoko and our handpicked local guides and staff that will do everything we can for you to have a great experience in Senegal.

The meaning of the mandinka word Jaliya is “The art of the Jali”, which is about bringing pleasure and peace to people - be it through music, singing, dancing, storytelling, counselling, mediating in times of conflicts or to influence those with power to make a change.
To create understanding and awareness and bring people together are some of the most important missions for a Jali, and for Sousou & Maher Cissoko’s Jaliya Camp.
The vision for Jaliya Camp is to be a platform for cultural exchange and a meeting place for people from all over the world to exchange ideas and create together. By joining us you become a very important part of Jaliya Camp and all what it stands for.
Jaliya Camp is not a hotel but a creative space and our second home. It is still evolving and so far we have three houses for rent (12 rooms) and an outdoor kitchen - and many more ideas and visions in our heads.
Every guest is special to us and an important part of the development of Jaliya Camp!
